About Vedika Performing Arts Foundation
The name Vedika means “altar” or “sacred space” in Vedic literature, symbolizing a holy area for rituals and representing knowledge and consciousness from the Vedas.
The Veda, or vedika, is key to Bharat Muni's Natya Shastra, which extends the four Vedas. The Natya Veda guides performing arts, promoting virtue, wealth, joy, and spiritual liberation.
The Natya Veda, created by the god Brahma according to the Natya Shastra, serves as a fifth Veda for all. It fuses elements from the four original Vedas: Rig Veda (speech), Sama Veda (music), Yajur Veda (acting), and Atharva Veda (emotional aesthetics).
Natyashastra, attributed to sage Bharata, explores human psychology and India's cultural context, focusing on stage performance art.
The Natyashastra's elements are: Rasa, Bhava, Abhinaya, Dharmi, Vritti, Pravritti, Siddhi, Svara, Gaan, Aatodyam, and Ranga. Skillful blending of these enhances dramatic or dance performances.
Vedika is a Sanskrit term for the stage used in traditional arts from the Natya Shastra during the Vedic period, where artists were rewarded with land, jewelry, or coins.
Vedika, inspired by Vaidik tradition and Natya Shastra, provides a platform for performers in eleven art forms to gain recognition, emphasizing that value comes with a cost.
